.......... who died today, aged 69.

An encyclopaedic cricket brain, and a strong sense of fair play which he was not averse to expressing publicly.

And his eye for statistics was of couse ummatched.

He was a long-term sufferer from Legionnaire's Disease.

RIP.

there are people that you wish that you have met them by just looking at their pictures...

i can say that he is one of them

but by the way ... how often are people in UK have a beard like this man?

and is it connected to age only .. or what is the idea behind it?

dose it add any value or portliness to a person over there?

In the UK growing a beard is usually a sign of a guy too lazy to shave, nothing more:)

Poppicock...

A beard is a sign of great strength and wisdom...

I am a beard wearer and patron and enjoy the furriness of my face, as does Mrs SB, more importantly :D

Many of my friends in the UK have beards and non are slum dwellers, students or left wing radicals....

Big up to you Beady and your promotion of the Beardism!

I wouldn't really say it is linked to religion, there are many reasons why someone would grow a beard...

In the muslim world, what is the importance/significance of growing a beard?

many scholars say that it is a must for a muslim to have it.

some of them are growing it not based on the order of islam but based on traditions.
