I've had a massive barney with my brother about xmas. How does everyone cope with family politics when leaving away?

If you forced your brother to go, his wife would probably make the event Hell on earth, so I wouldn't bother. If they live so close to your parents, can't the kiddies visit them any time? I used to hate family Xmases, especially after my adoptive parents passed away and I was stuck with three sisters and their sprogs.
