Default An eye for an eye...

...or not.

I don't find the initial--and continued--response of the victim alarming, and I find her ability to forgive and pardon uplifting.

I do find alarming the fact that, allegedly, the hospital were willing--or forced--to agree to carry out the punishment.

Yes, well done her. Not sure if I would have had the ability to not do the same back given the opportunity.

I hadn't thought about the hospital having to do the 'procedure' - still not much different to giving the lethal injection, pressing the zapping button or maybe a bit of water boarding really is it? Shitty job though.

Could you imagine being the man who cuts off fingers for a living?

An eye for an eye and the world goes blind.

She has shown up and shamed the medieval mindset of some people.

Heres a BBC article on Saudi's lead executioner.

I was wondering if it wasn't just chance that the guy is an Afro Arab, whether he got the job because the White Arabs don't like doing such jobs much like they don't like doing menial jobs?

Have just read that...it's like reading about the camp commandant at Auschwitz.

I am not against the death penalty for some crimes...but this is a testimony to how frighteningly backwards Saudi Sharia Law is.

I am against capital punishment for any crime because over here in the US too many people have been incarcerated only to be later freed after new evidence emerged , witholding of evidence or incompetence by law enforcement.

Religion takes away his ability to feel compassion and question the rightness or wrongness of his actions.

I only support it in cases of clear and obvious guilt...such as catching someone on camera plus overwhelming forensic evidence etc. And then only for serious crimes like rape, child abuse, first degree murder or treason.

It has that effect on many people, not just this fellow. Many ideologies dehumanise the enemy to make it easier to commit horrific crimes.
