Yup, it's all about being meticulous and having one's priorities in order.

I live on the 18th floor of a building in Abu Dhabi - does this mean I can't start drinking rum until 30 seconds after the bloke on the 1st floor?

As someone said on here, almost all countries, muslim or otherwise, don't make non muslims adhere to the law of no drinking, eating etc.

And that's a very valid point.

I don't know if that is true, but when I was working my passage to UK in 1972 and we were travelling up the Brazilian coast I was amazed how fast the sun appeared to drop out of the sky at sunset as we crossed the equator. Guess it is the same at all equator crossing points??

Yes. I grew up in Singapore which is some 50 miles from the equator, I believe, and the change from daytime to night time happened almost instantly. It's pretty quick here in the UAE, compared to the UK, for example.

That's a dangerous comment to make on a forum like this. Have you ever been taken up the Burj Khalifa?

Possibly..........Seems it was a term to indicate I was signed on for the voyage as an unpaid crew member! Perhaps even more worrying was that my job was engineroom greaser!!!!!!!!!!
