Good article - I seem to recall that at the time we all said "The Dark side of Dubai" was plainly littered with child-like bullshit. He got a big bag of stereotypical views of Dubai, invented some characters to fit them and hey-ho, he wrote his fantasy. That's not to say he's not a good writer, I just think with his imagination he'd genuinely be better served writing fiction.
As for writing fiction, well, he already does that, it's just he doesn't call it fiction, which is a shame, as he is suprisingly entertaining if read as fiction...

To be fair there are plenty of writers and speakers in this region who take Europe to task - but they are seen as extremist idiots.
Hari should know better and should have given far more balance than he did. Even the most grumpy expats have positive things to say about the UAE...how can someone who doesn't live here come out with such nonsense?

Well I'm glad this has cleared up one thing: I never knew if he was a he or a she from his photo alongside his columns. Just saying...

A UAE newspaper sticking up for accurate reporting?
Oh, the irony...
How much bullshit have they put out over the years? Bahrain isn't run by murderous dictators, the doctors they're executing are all iranian backed trouble-makers, etc. etc.
The british press has its problems as we've seen recently, but the press is still free and a lot more reliable than anything in the UAE.
