Don't know what they're like in the home setting either, but in the shop, I preferred the Samsung one, seemed to be easier on the eyes at wider angles and the glasses fit the little kids better.
There was a third TV, Philips I think it was in the store that wasn't bad, but the glasses weren't very comfy at all, worse if you wear glasses.

I guess you are all talking about watching stuff either live or streamed.I don't know..I am a technophobe, but I download everything and if I want to watch it on my tv (54inch blahblah..no idea but apparently the latest dogs bollocks) I have a merlin hard drive thing....connect it to my tv and watch it.

Essentials that aren't...
iPad - only use it for holidays / flights I think....but I had to buy one.
iPhone - physically, I survived without it before I had it. Technically.
My car. 7 seats and 80% of my journeys involve just me.

I went for LG 42'' (A high spec one) which is plenty big enough for the bedroom. The films are stupidly expensive here though QR150+ but you can download them for free if you look about. I downloaded and watched Prometheus, film was quite lame but the 3D made it awesome.

Don't know what they're like down your way, but locally, Samsung had the best deal going for them, in the massive screens included 5 glasses and they were a hell of a lot cheaper to replace than the Sony ones, also a lot more comfortable.

This business of essentials is interesting to me, as twice in my life I have walked away from everything I owned apart from the clothes I was wearing at the time.
Yes, slowly you start accumulating stuff again, most of it irrelevant crap you don't need, but really? Essentials? Nothing.
