Re: Empty shops at MCC
I don't fall into the mid-life crisis category yet..
Its a great sport, the Abu Dhabi triathlon last weekend was an absolutely fab event that catered for all ages and abilities. Was nice to see so many newcomers to the sport..
Plus I did share the same leaderboard as our current olympic champion Ali Brownlee..

Re: Empty shops at MCC
Festival City was already emptying out when I left Dubai two years ago. Empty shops lined the smaller corridors. Other than Ikea what's the point of going there? The mall felt dark and cramped compared to other ones and I suppose it was doomed when MCC opened since the latter mall took away the Mirdiff/Sharjah/Arabian Ranches crowd due to its convenience and openness. The Deira ho's have DCC.

well, no, but that is a very limited market.
I also buy stuff online (GPS, heartrate etc) and just ship USPS over to Oman direct. It's the little stuff, or the stuff that's too expensive to ship, that I like Decathlon for. But really, to have high hopes of a mall store? Pushing it.

What HRM and GPS do you use? I'm now in a topic that interests me on this forum!

Frenchies cover all sports so only place I could get soft archery and swingball for the nippers.
but agree it's more for the masses than specialist/technical gear.

Great choice: I use the 910xt for running and swimming, use an edge500 for most of my biking. Bought both them online from Kompetative edge on the black Monday sales. The 910xt I got for 250USD (without HRM) which was amazing.
The swimmetrics on the 910 are pretty impressive, especially for pool swimming.
Have you owned many garmins? I have to replace the softstrap HRM every 6 months. Think it must be excess sweat and humidity in the contacts.. Quite annoying though as the replacement straps are about 250aed.
Never used the garmin footpod, used the polar S3 as my RS800CX didn't have GPS, but with the garmin I just use the GPS (don't really pay too much attention to running cadence etc)
I assume you are a keen runner?

Re: Empty shops at MCC
Sorry, let's get back on topic..about a mall, not the mall you meant and how many empty shops there are...
Very interesting..not.
I'd start my own thread on fitness but clearly as has been proven in the past, BE is not really the place for sporty people.
Let's open a "what did everyone have for lunch" thread..

yes to strap replacement - no to keen runner - more of a swimmer, but hey-ho, whilst I was online.... and I over pronate so I need to keep an eye on that (& I have mild scoliosis, so one leg shorter than the other).
haven't owned many garmins, used to do polars but a bit flakey

I find the polar watches pretty reliable. The new GPS one is pretty awesome but only has a battery life of 12hrs compared to 20hrs with the 910xt.
Over pronation, assume having mild scoliosis you are very particular in chosing your trainers..what make/model do you run in?
Not sure what software you plan to use with your 910xt. There is garmin training centre which is downloaded onto your PC/mac. I use that only for uploading specific sessions into my 910/500. It does not display any of the swimmetrics that the web based "garmin connect" does. I have a "training peaks" account which is pretty much the best software going (if you are seriously into training and have a coach etc) again though, TP doesn't display many details of the swim apart from CSS and 100m splits.
Anyway, ill get hassled from the bored for posting such drivel..
Good luck and enjoy the 910 when it arrives. (Still not sure what use you will really get from the footpod when the GPS gives you very accurate speed and distance)..apart from cadence which I mentioned earlier...which unless your a serious runner, is what it is..
Now, I am typing this on my bberry as I'm in bed (as I have a 5am bike session to nail pre work tomorrow) so don't be picky towards my spelling or grammar.

Oh and 2 tuna rolls (no butter or mayo) a green leaf salad and litre of water. Followed by 2 nature valley granola bars.
That was a good day. Last thursday I had 6 small subway sandwiches at midday (we had a platter ordered into the office) forgot I was doing a swim CSS test at 4pm and almost drowned. I'm swimming better than ever recently but my test was about 20percent slower than my previous test..

dunno about software - will ask when i get my mitts on the 910xt
might shock you, but I use Saloman (sp?) ultras for running here, as anything less sturdy jumping on / off pavements, roads, tracks etc gives me wobbly ankles
footpod? ach well, it was a random "whilst I'm buying purchase" and I'm lucky I earn enough that tbh I don't really worry if I've made a mistake, as long as I do use it.

We bought a barely touched Concept2 off a mate, and that has really helped with my swimming. My endurance is shite due to asthma (I'm a crippled wreck, I swear!) but swimming & rowing combined helps a lot.
Nature valley bars have LOADS of sugar in them, don't they?!
and 6 subways? freaking ell... I'd puke if I tried to eat 2!
