The Elephant in the Room..World Cup 2022
Looks like there will be a new vote for a venue for World Cup 2022, which means almost certainly that Qatar wont 'win' this time. What's the feeling in Qatar especially people involved in the Engineering / Construction sectors ?

Solution to this is to replace FIFA, not the host of the WC.

I think it will get rebid, Qatar will win again. The dirty hands of FIFA will be richer - no questions again as it was rebid. simples.

No re-bid, a few sacrificial heads.

Re: The Elephant in the Room..World Cup 2022
People broke their neck to get in here from 2010 and it had a negative effect to be honest , companies are slashing each other throats to take work on shite margins in a place where it's one of the most expensive places in the world to construct.
We've walked away from contracts and have lost less money doing nothing than actually doing them . Qatar is one crazy messed up place , a lot of companies and people expect a mini-Dubai kind of concept. It's a place where you are constantly disappointed and realise it's more like Djibouti than Dubai
There's not many would cry too many tears if there was a re-vote but the scandal is far too deep and if there's one thing that Qatari's are good at it's being devious . I expect a long drawn out process with maybe a few sacrificial heads and millions to the lawyers.......

I really hope they don't lose it. The World Cup should come here, as should the thousands of supporters. It might be just me but I don't think it's understood well that whilst a bunch of expats who come here to work behave in a certain way, most don't come here to create any sort of scene, but a mob of footie fans from all over will have a whole different mindset as to how they will behave and really could probably care less. I'm looking forward to how it pans out. Just a shame it wouldn't be during Ramadan.

I completely disagree. The Qataris have let down themselves and the Arabian Gulf by their corruption and don't deserve to be involved in any future World Cup tournaments. Let the Aussies stage the 2022 World Cup, end of.

Time differences kill the World Cup for 95% of football fans if it's held in Aus.

Agree with Aus, as America has staged enough WCs and Olympics, so give someone else a chance.

Re: The Elephant in the Room..World Cup 2022
"According to reports from The Age, Fifa’s ethics investigator Michael Garcia has recently flown a former FFA employee out to the US to question her confidentially about Australia’s conduct.
Bonita Mersiades, who was the association’s corporate affairs manager at the time of the bid, told The Age that the Australian association has previously tried to avoid exposing “international development” grants the FFA allegedly gave to overseas football bodies in the run up to the 2010 vote.
The Age reported that the FFA made a $462,000 (£276,000) payment to the allegedly-corrupt former Fifa executive Jack Warner – who, according to the Sunday Times, also received money from Qatar’s Mohamed Bin Hammam.
Ms Mersiades is reported to have said: “The revelations in The Sunday Times about the way Bin Hammam used hospitality, gifts, perks, and upgrades of stadiums to win bid support has parallels with the manner in which Australia used some of its funds during its bidding campaign.”"

Matches in the middle of the night or early morning for most fans, Distances to travel the same as a London/St Petersburg joint bid, soccer fourth or fifth most popular sport etc etc.
Thats why Australia only got one vote.
The equivalent would be hosting the cricket world cup in Canada

The only difference with the time is revenue for TV companies which makes it less attractive this less money for FIFA .
The Qatar bid was flawed from day one with the heat , changing it to winter is a no go as it's not in the bid criteria but hey ho when did that ever stop people from ignoring criteria and contractual obligations in this part of the world eh ?
