Ejari
Did you folks know that you have to 'formally' cancel your Ejari once your lease ends and there is a charge of frigging AED 40.
One would think since Ejari covers the lease period, it would automatically end/cancel once the lease period expires. But I guess not, just another way to get money (and waste time in having to go and do it!).

is that strictly adhered too? Coz I find it hard to comprehend that people actual cancel...I have never cancelled my Ejari (and hence never been contacted to do so on any previous apartment I have left), up till now, and only coz the frigging dumba S S company dealing with the lease of my previous apartment are insisting I do so, otherwise chances are they will not refund my deposit.

Re: Ejari
So to screw a dickhead landlord over you just leave and don't cancel it.... empty apartment forever....
I've never cancelled an Ejari and never had anyone ask me to. I'm guessing that if you don't, it will just be cancelled the next time someone registers at the same property (as long as it is outside the tenancy period).

yep I think you right, coz I have never had to cancel an Ejari either, until now, and hence this thread.

that would be the logical thing, but no it seems it must be cancelled before the new tenant can register even if the tenancy has expired. this change was only brought in just over a year ago so most people haven't experienced it (nor estate agents). I had a massive ball ache after i left my last place in march. the new tenant was calling me (stupid agent gave them my number), the agent was calling me and the landlord was calling me.

Standard Dubai style bollocks! I do sometimes wonder if they all sit around and ask 'so what stupid rule are we going to implement this week'....
Talking of wanky agents, I had a 5K Dewa bill suddenly appear on my bill from a villa I left over 5yrs ago..... Somehow found the agents number and then ever more surprisingly found an email from them agreeing that they would cover the outstanding bill using the deposit.... mega phew! And mega back slap for me for shockingly still having the email.
