errrr, how about not following a barbaric tradition based in a time of no soap and clean water, both of which trump any so called medical justification.

:) but that's exactly my point mate. Customs are not based on any form of justifications.

 Most customs are based on justifications which were valid when the custom came about. Not eating pork, male circumcision, clinking glasses when saying "Cheers", being permitted to take 4 wives, keeping thy hand out of plackets...

Yes, good point, what I meant to say was that most customs today, since it does not make any sense to keep on doing them.
But all these customs would have been called common practice back then right? They evolved into customs, I guess.

my point being they no longer need to be done just by dint of being a custom

I'd be livid! If i had a baby and if I had a husband and he took her off and had holes put in her ears at such a young age without my permission there would be hell to pay! You are absolutely right to be pissed off.

I feinted having my ears pierced, it bloody hurt, why would you do that to a baby?

I read that they expect a similar demand to Germany in 06 / 7 applicants per ticket. However I also expect that most foreigners are going to apply for Rio / SP and Braslia (not sure offhand if Recife is hosting, if so - them aswell). Curitiba and Porto Alegre will attract Argentina and German fans I would image.

June will be fine tempwise, warmer than Scotland that's for sure!

I'm heading off there in a couple weeks - 3 weeks of doing nothing and since I'm working my notice - the blackberry is staying on my desk!

looks like I may be in Curitiba, Rio and Porto Alegre next year after all. Money's left my account...but no contact from FIFA

Wife tells me this is normal in Brazil while I am I of the opinion that 3 months is far too young.

Am I right to be pissed off or am I in the wrong on this?

Annoyed for not consulting you yes, i have a daughter and her ears were pierced at 2 months, it was a joint decision and the reason for me was first and foremost it is cultural thing and secondly that they will not remember the pain as they do when they are older. I did however use emla cream on her ears so that they were numb :)

Body modification, should be left until a child is old enough to know what it actually entails. In the case of ear piercing I would suggest sometime in the mid teenage years for most. For other more invasion modifications it should be the same as elective surgery - an adult decision.

Custom or belief is no longer a valid excuse for meddling with young people's bodies.

No shit, Sherlock! Meanwhile the is a 600 year gap in behavior.

I had an email from FIFA a few days ago saying they have delayed the deadline for finding out about it until the 10th November (was initially the 5th November), something to do with the Brazilian authorities supervising the draw.

I just logged into several of my applications and they all still say pending which is better than rejected!

Curitiba was the 3rd most popular venue which I found surprising, I would have thought the more common tourist cities like Belo Horizonte / Natal / Recife would have been more popular.

I just checked ADCB online and there is an Authorisation Request for 2,750.15 AED (near as damn it to the 720 USD + fee for the tickets!).

Promising indeed! Now I just have to hope that my other applications aren't all approved, otherwise we'll be having a very quiet November...

N.

Male circumcision: hot, arid countries = lack of water = difficulty in washing = removal of dirt traps is a good idea
Female circumcision: control of females' sexuality by weak males

That's an educated guess.
