Re: Dubai is sh1te....
I think the secondary education is fairly good here.
Did hear a good story about a friends 16 year old son who went on rugby tour to Dublin. First time he's been out of UAE without parents and been able to drink.
He was shocked - people were being sick in the street, sleeping on pavements and even fighting, imagine that.
I presume he's not been to Barasti or Double Decker.

Re: Dubai is sh1te....
This is an interesting thread for me, given my husband and I may soon be contemplating a move to Dubai. We would only move there for the job opportunities though. Do you think it is that bad if you get a really good job which would not be available to you in your home town (mine being Perth, i Oz)? For both of us, but me in particular, it would allow me to do work which would be really interesting and challenging, much more so than the work I can do at home in my industry. This is assuming I get a job which I have not done as yet.
Do you think a great job, coupled with the financial benefits is enough to make it bearable?

I am in a similar situation, living an easy and fairly idyllic family life in semi-rural bliss. However things are getting a bit dull, and opportunities over here are slowing down. Also with 2 young kids, financially things are tight.
I am giving Dubai a go, as it is one of the few places in the world I can earn a decent wage, and as an architect actually be allowed to build something, rather than ding dong around with UK planners and clients changing their minds. As they say a change is as good as a holiday.
The biggest regret I could have is not taking up what I currently consider to be a good opportunity. If it doesn't work out I always have the option to return home ... or go somewhere else.

From what I hear (as I do not have children at school in Dubai) it is ok, but nowhere near as good as the price you have to pay.
As the only experience I have is through friends, and my interaction with teenage interns in Dubai. I'd have to say that if I had to spend that much cash on education, it would be in a private school in the UK.
But I could be wrong.
