Dubai restaurants fear slump after alcohol ruling

As I have been saying............. insert your own cliche as appropriate:

"It's becoming more Islamic".... "Thin end of the wedge".... etc etc.... :(

Wonder if they will enforce it at the locals bar just before Hatta. Weirdest place ever that

Another win for the Dubai marketing dept - the international tourists who bring millions each year will continue to flood in won't they?

Sounds like pre-Ramadan tokenism/piousness

Dhs 10 says the ruling doesn't remain in force for long.

There's a crappy hotel in the village before Hatta that has the worlds weirdest bar full of khandora clad blokes in a northern social club look a like setting. Closely followed in it's weirdness by the three next to each other mini night clubs, Pakistani, Indian and Bangladeshi clubs replete with dancing girls. The doors are literarily right next to each other but clubs totally separate. Possibly the most surreal hotel in the country

Actually, the whole premise of the article is ill-founded, IMHO.

The authorities can come up with as many rulings as they like about how booze is displayed, but its certainly not going to affect my consumption. Anybody else out there gonna drink less coz its not on display?

Well in the UK they are trying to get cigarette displays banned/covered and want plain packaging too...because that's going to stop people smoking (and cause the government to lose 9billion in tax revenue).

Governments are unbelievably dense.

Referring to Governments as 'unbelievably dense' is somewhat restrained for you, Norm!
