Default Dubai drinks

Let's not let those lot down in Abu Dhabi beat us at our own game (well, one that from what I can tell, we win most of the time)...

Who's up for drinks this weekend?

Well, for a knock down, out for the night Pimms, get them to try this recipe:

Serves 1 person and serve in as large a glass possible

3 parts Pimms No 1
2 parts gin
1 part Cointreau

A selection of chopped fruit (eg strawberries, orange, peach, apple)

Marinade fruit in the above fragrant marinade for at least 4 hours.

Then add 1 large can of chilled dry cider (tonic water or lemonade is for wusses) + loads of ice and mint leaves.

Drink and enjoy.

And then keep the fruits which have fermented and enjoy with a great big spoonful of vanilla ice cream

kittycat1 - it is but that's the fun. It tastes like an innocuous fruit punch so only one allowed per person and they must get a cab home! Forget how many Sunday afternoons I don't remember because of this concoction - probably have a few friends back in Blighty who don't remember some Sunday afternoons either ... but can't remember that either!

However, served in smaller amounts it's a great kick-off for a party.

Dad was in the Uk armed forces and used to make a pimms type home brew called Fighter Command Brew - basically, as far as I can remember as I was only about 13 then - which consisted of anything from which alcohol could be gotten. Potatoes, grapes, raisins and no idea what else. It would sit in a plastic dustbin in front of the parrafin fired stove in the kitchen until it was 'ready' and then filtered and bottled. The remains of whatever fruit and veg in the mixture were used to fertilise the small veg patch we had - you've never seen so many p!ssed birds in your life.

Obviously long before the days of elf & safety or animal welfare.

Also have a great recipe for damson gin/damson gin truffles if anyone is interested? OK, haven't seen damsons here but it may translate to plum or apricot?

my godmother makes an awesome sloe gin, I usually start drinking it about 8am on Xmas morning, by 10am Im pretty well oiled and by lunchtime Im having a blast! Its the only way I can cope with xmas day lol- its also great for getting rid of colds and flu!

My other erm cocktail of years gone by is turbo shandy- 1/2 a pint of beer and 1/2 a pint of smirnoff ice! That seems to do the trick and has got me into a few sticky situations! Haven't drunk it for years now so perhaps its time for a revisit!

I'm off to the beerfest at Irish Village, despite swearing off the booze last weekend, and the weekend before!

As for novelty cocktails try yourself a Cheeky Vimto - one (or two) shots of port topped up with a bottle of blue WKD. It's not classy or clever, but it is fun.

And, there's also the Jagernuke, which follows the same red bull and Jagermeister prinicpals as the Jaggerbomb, but with an additional shot of vodka, just to get the party started. I've never had one out here, I'm figuring it'd be expensive.

I might pop in. I'm meant to be viewing flats up the marina end in the afternoon, but I think I'm going to have to pop into work in the morning (just around the corner from the Irish Village).

It's 350 for 10 tickets or 40 each. 80 dibs to get in and you get two beer tokens. Yes, its in the tent thingy. The selection of beers was pretty disappointing IMO, you could get 90% of them in my local Asda at home. However, compared to a UK beerfest there were far less men with big beards and waistcoats and many, many more girls with short skirts.
