We likewise had no issues for several years but I understand that Etisalat have recently found a way to infiltrate. Also, a source tells me that Microsoft are sending out viruses to get customers to upgrade to their latest systems. Sounds unlikely but its what I've been told.

If you want your machine to be as fresh as possible..format it every 6 months, and do a fresh install. Registry clean outs are over rated, but I still agree with CCleaner. IOBit also has Advanced Windows System Care which comes with a bunch of stuff which is useful.

Also, Win 7 has a load of features to be turned off to speed up your machine, as XP did..

in your case, I recommend that you turn off the keyboard, mouse and screen.

Depends what you are after. A ton of useless features, some suck up juice from your machine, but some even though they are taxing on your system actually help to keep on as it works in conjunction to speed up other things. But seriously..do it It's quite simple. But it appears most people over 35 are afraid of pc's still.
