Default do expats drink more than they did in uk and if so, why?

I do:

1 Because booze ( I'm talking vodka here) is cheaper than uk and now I can afford it!
2 Boredom ie: the weather, now Summer is here. The heat etc.
3 Socialize more in ME functions, corporate do's et al.

I certainly did when I lived in Qatar - for much the same reasons as you've mentioned - always loved using my drinks permit to go shopping at the one and only alcohol warehouse. In Riyadh now - very different story - although my liver is thanking me at the moment.

I am talking about booze being cheaper in the bottle store. And duty free for that matter.

Danajji

I make sure I have a couple of (what I call liver days) ie: no booze for a few days so my liver can recover.

Pepsi - I tried that, but always found someone calling me out for a night out on one of the non alcohol days - what could I do? I couldn't refuse a kind offer like that - plus I've no will power.

It takes 72 hours of no drinking for your body to process the alcohol and to be "booze free"
It takes 7 weeks for your liver to regenerate.

Apart from my spells in Saudi I would say about the same,I have even taken to going out on my own as I am often back mid week and away at weekends.I still feel a bit sorry for the hammering my liver is going to get in just over a week when I bo back to blighty, homecoming(good excuse to catch up with anyone) a stag do,bank holiday weekend in the smoke watching rugby league final and 7 days in Portugal with the boys, think another spell in Jeddah will sort me out when I get back,I love my job.

Ok glynster. you have limited options where you are based maybe. But you sure make up for it when you go back to blighty!

I am like you (to quote Oscar Wilde) I can resist anything but temptation. I sent this reply before but it didn't appear. I don't know why. I am new to all this.
