Default Do chefs get the days off during Ramadan

Just wondered it would be a challenge to get the meal/dish right?
With strict rules nothing should pass the lips between sunrise and sunset
What really happens in restaurants? [to those more senior among us here]
think i should pack a lunch box, will there be no restaurants oppen to get lunch?

Piece is a north of the border expression. My apologies

I'm not sure what you mean, challenge to get it right and packing a piece? I don't get it..

Anyway, depends on the restaurant, some restaurants decide to send all their staff on vacation, for the ones who are opened it's just business as usual.

Wait, if by a challenge to get it right you mean with tasting the food, then I do have the answer.

Not that all chefs here are muslim, but for the sake of it, I worked with a muslim chef once, and during ramadan he used to work as usual, but instead of swallowing he just spat it out. According to him that was allowed, which got confirmed by chefs at the hotel I used to work at.

I admired him though, that is real temptation, and being able to resist it required a great deal of mental strenght. Not like just removing all the temptation like they do here.

if spitting is allowed I guess it means hookers can also still work during the day!

Haha.. you need to put additional info for our Southerners e.g.., piece (sandwich) ! Not sure if the Geordies use piece in that context, though .
