Digital Camcorder Thingummy

Her Indoors (see avatar) wants one in order to record the dubious delights of Dubai before we ultimately move to greener pastures, hopefully next summer. They all look the same to me and they all seem to cost Dhs800-1,200. Just found a Samsung going for Dhs250 on souq.com but its about 5 yrs old. Does anybody have any advice on which brands to avoid? Very many thanks.

Technology on these things change so rapidly don't think it really matters which you buy. We bought Sony a couple of years ago and have used it probably twice.

Maybe I can persuade her to stick to her mobile phone instead. It's alot of money to spend.

Mobile phones these days have pretty good video functionality on them. My iPhone 4 records in HD (not sure on definition but its HD) so wouldn't bother buying one unless she / you are seriously in to it because it will ,like Roadking said, sit in your drawer for months or years at a time!

Do you have an SLR? Most have good video facilities on them these days.

We have digital camcorder (Sony) - it's about nine years old now but still pretty good. We have twenty years of video from everywhere we go, it's amazing how much you forget until you watch a video. We also have a digital SLR which probably gets used at least a couple of times a week. They are invaluable LH, go get one tomorrow.
