Considering how many people don't even bother locking their cars overnight, I kinda think number two is the correct answer.

There's a difference between petty crime and plotting to blow up a building.
Do you know people who dont lock their cars?
The only place that is "hard" to get into in Dubai is the Burj Al Arab and even then if you have whiteish skin and an attitude you can waltz straight in.

yes, but I only know people in Abu Dhabi.

You can't convince me that nobody's tried, and I can't convince you that the police aren't Keystone Kops.
But if I had such serious concerns about security, I'd have gone back home long ago. At the moment I sleep like a baby and never lock my car doors.

Probably not a terrorist action, just some disgruntled contractors who haven't been paid yet.
