Can either you (or the author of that blog, a 'John Walker') point to where, as Walker claims, the DM says the NHS is a 'bad thing' per se?

I read the original piece, not the revised one, and the DM writer seemed to be saying that 'we should not have glorified the NHS when recently someone died of thirst in an NHS bed' - there will be plenty who agree with that, but far more who say 'of course things sometimes go wrong in NHS hospitals, and it's often due to staff neglect or incompetence, but it's mostly very good'.

Would the DM disagree with that specific point?

The only time he says it's in any way a good thing is the grudging:

Yes, there are parts of the NHS that we can be proud of and it undoubtedly does lots of excellent work.

That after:

the NHS being shamefully glorified

The letters ‘NHS’ dazzled in bright red, like some triumphant advert

a politically divisive subject

the cracks in a system that is creaking at its seams - crying out for urgent reform

an institution that allowed a man to die of thirst from his hospital bed

the likes of Kane, and the many others who have been failed by the NHS

The gist isn't hard to pick up.

Agreed - but his point was mainly that the NHS should not have featured at all in the Opening Ceremony (the rest of the article was just pointless waffle). Even the mild-mannered Deanetta agrees............

I think (as the original link say) the article had some significant bait-and-switch going on.

I also think that, in an opening ceremony that was supposed to highlight the idiosyncrasies of today's UK (itself a good idea - we were never going to out-do Beijing in pomp), the NHS absolutely should have taken a leading role. It is one of the few institutions that, in vision at least, nearly the entire country is behind.
