Credit Card fraud

Credit Card fraud
Yesterday I made a transaction on line and five minutes later we were the victims of credit card fraud, someone was spending on our card. The bank were superb and rang us before we got a chance to ring them!! (HSBC believe it or not). So how does this happen? is it related to the transaction I made which was a reservation not an actual payment or are the two totally unrelated?

If you made the payment online, using your computer, its related to the viruses which are present on your computer logging the credit card details.

Re: Credit Card fraud
Are some people just more susceptible to this by not protecting themselves properly? I have bought things over the Internet for more than 10 years, If you include my payments to Bookmakers and Poker sites I would say more than 1 transaction a day and I have never had a problem. There has been maybe one or two "High Risk" sites whilst inebriated.

Re: Credit Card fraud
I use a credit card just for internet use only (the limit is pretty minimal $1000 only). If i need to buy anything greater than $1000 - i make a call to the bank and they will increase it to whatever i need.
Other way maybe to buy pre-paid credit cards and keep topping them up regularly.
