Re: Cover Versions Better Than The Original.
Two where the originals are fabulous but covers awesome:
Nouvelle Vague do superb covers - favourite is their cover of Bauhaus' Bela Lugosi's Dead http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qv5QLr_TQ3g In turn, the Bauhaus cover of Ziggy Stardust is superb http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6a_YQXFs7Ts |

ooh I forgot about All along the watchtower. Yeah Hendrix's version is definitely better.
He also did a version of another Dylan tune, "Can You Please Crawl Out Of Your Window", this is miles better to my ears. :) |

Also Tom Jones' version of Witchita Lineman. So much more emotion than the original. |

Re: Cover Versions Better Than The Original.
that Bauhaus cover of Bowie just seems to be the same to me, I mean they didn't bring anything original to it. I think the cover should reinterpret the song somewhat or give it some feeling you didn't notice before, rather than just being louder or performed in a different genre.
Guns and roses doing knocking on heavens door is just abysmal imo  anyhow case in point Jeff Buckley covering Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah  Tricky doing Public Enemy's Black Steel |

Sweet Dreams by Marilyn Manson (vs Eurythmics)

Re: Cover Versions Better Than The Original.
Gotan Project's Tango version of Nirvana's Nevermind
Not better but very very different and very good indeed. Can't find a youtube clib but it is halfway through Gilles Peterson's podcast with Phillipe Cohen Solal 13 Jan 2011. |
