Crazy Genie Threat

A man went on trial yesterday for threatening to send evil genies to torment a woman after she turned down his marriage proposal.

The Dubai Court of First Instance heard that the 47-year-old Syrian man had warned he would send the supernatural spirits to the Tunisian victim in order to “make her crazy” and “send her body back to her home county dead” if she did not agree to marry him.

The man was charged with threatening the 31-year-old woman and also with harassing her by phone.

According to police records, the victim first met the suspect in Dubai and he immediately started to harass her and then made his marriage offer.
“I refused but then he came to my flat and kept calling me on my phone from different numbers,” she said in the records.
“On his last call he said: ‘I will send two genies to make you crazy and I will send you home dead if you don’t marry me’.”

The terrified girl complained to the police in August.
“Once he followed her and tried to kiss her,” the victim’s roommate said.

The suspect denies the charges and the trial was adjourned until later this month.
