I've just had Wickes deliver a load of wood, now I need to think of something to build. All the gear, no idea.

Impressive. My DIY skills include all of these at EXPERT level:

Rushing into it.
Overcooking it.
Spending forever measuring and thinking.
Overestimating my own skill.
Getting pissed off.
Rushing key stages.
Getting bored.
Half-arsing to semi-completion.
Proudly thinking I've done a good job.

[SDS drill I hope]
Get a guinea pig / rabbit and build a hutch or run for it, or build a greenhouse/ potting shed. (Have done both in the past and really enjoyable - especially if you get a chop-saw)

How I miss Wickes and generally working outside building stuff. Speedex just isn't the same, and trying to do stuff while sweating into your eyes sucks.
