Stangs are too common here though. The GM stealer told me only about 300 Camaros have been imported into the UAE officially, almost all have gone to locals who only drive them after midnight or on weekends - apparently only about 4 of us expats have got one (this may have been a sales tactic) but after driving mine for 5 weeks I've not driven past any others yet.

There are only 3 Camaros listed in the region through the stealer website http://www.gmcertifiedarabia.com/.

In the end I thought bollocks, go for a car I wouldn't consider in the UK due to petrol consumption etc. So went out and got a US muscle car and haven't looked back. I agree, buy a big American car while you can...When I was in college I was with a little girl from Tokyo, she needed a car so I got her a used Oldsmobile Delta 88. She thought it was the greatest thing ever. We did everything in that car, it was almost as big as her house back home I think. She took about 5000 pictures of it. Beside me, I think that car was the highlight of her 2 years in America

I can't believe some of the little tiny cars you drive around in, in England and those tiny row houses you live in...

I suggest a Lincoln Town Car Kitty..I've had 2 over the years and never had a problem with them.

I've only seen one or two Lincoln continentals/town cars in Dubai. I think they had Bahrain plates. Bahrain oddly doesn't go for the 4x4 the UAE does and the popular cars are the big American sedans.

Kitty would really be somthin driving around Dubai in that beast, and she seems to be a "bit" (as you say) of a trendsetter.

Don't buy used, don't buy used, don't buy used. Get a car with a full up warranty, cars break over here, especially European.

or buy used with warranty..

i bought my touareg with 2 years of extended warranty. the warranty cost me SR3,500 and was worth every penny (covered changing of the driveshaft and complete engine rebuild to replace a leaking transmission seal so far which would have cost me SR15,500 without it). also to get the warranty the stealer had to do a full checkup so when i had problems i was able to tell them that either the warranty would cover the work or they would!

You can tell them that, but extended warranties do not cover everything, thats a myth, and if you think you can get a dealer to cover it everytime, your wrong on that count too. It's your car, your responsibilty, if it goes wrong, you pay for it, nobody else. But thanks for confirming that you do need warranty of some sort, otherwise you could end up with very nasty bills.

of course extended warranties don't cover everything, but then again neither do normal warranties. in terms of getting things covered i'm 2 for 2 so far so i'm happy enough.

end of the day it's all about whether you are willing to take a risk, or alternatively what you are willing to pay to take the risk away (or at least reduce it). some people buy extortionately priced 5 year extended warranty on their new LED flatscreen whilst others are perfectly happy to stick with the 1 year warranty offered as standard. In Saudi you can even buy stuff without warranty at all....

That's the same here - only in the UAE they pretend it does when they sell it to you.
