Religion has been used as a weapon against women for centuries. Stoning, genital mutilation, honour killing, forced marriage, marital rape, execution for the crime of being raped, dismemberment, disenfranchisement, losing parental rights and flogging have been commonplace in (predominantly, but not exclusively muslim) countries as a means of exercising power over women, in the name of religion.

Unless there is religious reform, nothing will change.

Very Patriarchal cultures used/use religion to control women and to prevent them from hooking up with males from other tribes.

A while back I saw a documentary of male chimps who coalesced into gangs and would go invade another male chimp gang's territory, kill the males and take the females. Now if these chimps could understand religion, they would pick the religion that created the most favourable circumstances for the males.

The proponents of certain very patriarchal religions who boast of how civilized they are , are in fact are just like maruding chimp gangs.

That area around Afghanistan/Pakistan/India has seen countless barbarians invade , rape/take local women and settle down. The barbarian attitude is just too bloody entrenched.

If there is any place that would have benefitted from Britain staying, it is the subcontinent. And I don't mean to downplay the atrocities the British empire committed but relative to how shitty life was and is over there, things would have actually improved.

Just read that a 'scientific' study in Saudi has concluded that letting women drive will lead to prostitution, pornography, homosexuality, and that within 10 years there will no longer be any virgins in the Kingdom.
