I'm relatively new to UAE--is Sharjah historically more strict than Dubai and AD? (I have a friend who's interested...)

Re: Cohabiting
Sharjah is much more conservative than the other Emirates and is also dry. Dubai is probably still the least conservative but even things there seem to be changing. Abu Dhabi used to be a lot more conservative than it currently is but the authorities do have crack downs from time to time in every Emirate. A couple of years ago it was checking drinks licences and CID are always around.
