Re: Christmas Thread
Guess who put up our Xmas trees last weekend? One for the formal dining room, which we rarely use, and one for the lounge, which we do.

Although I do find it weird that if your friends visit you in Dubai they expect you to take time off to show them around Dubai (the same places you have already been a gazillion times), but when you go back to the UK they are busy working, have other plans at night and frequently don't give a crap. Only when you are more or less ready to leave will they call you to say something like "Are you going already? We didn't get to meet. Can you change your plans (packing usually in my case) and come meet up for a beer?"....

We are here for the duration. Not a huge fan espcailly with the festitivites starting quite this soon ... But before I sound too Scroogy I'm really looking forward to enjoying it with the kids, who at 2 and 5, are old enough to understand and young enough to believe ...

Aussies in general are a brilliant lot and to be honest Australia is an amazing country, reckon we'll end up there to live in a few years, it's got the lot.
Plenty of narrow minded Brits as well, so you should go, you'd fit right in.

Absolutely. The problem is when you have groups of friends who don't mix (for whatever reason). Last time I was back I had 4 nights in a row out on the lash. I am definitely too old for that...

The reason, I think , is that THEY come for a holiday and expect exactly that, a holiday. WE expats go HOME.
Of course, going home is a holiday for us, but that does not seem to sink in with those being at home.
Anyhow, when I go home now I do not give a rat's behind about what THEY want, I simply enjoy my holiday

Staying here in UAE for the 4th Christmas in a row, no plans, will prob get a turkey and ham from Spinneys and do my own dinner and go out later when I'm able to get up of the floor and zip up my jeans.
I have 2 bits of tinsel and a wreath that we robbed from the tavern last year so I'll put those up upon arrival in the new apt.
