Chris Cornell -RIP
Just saw on the news this morning that he was found dead in a hotel -
He was the backing track to my college days with Soundgarden and Temple of the Dog and after that with Audioslave. Such an amazing singer.

Re: Chris Cornell -RIP
Oddly enough I had just googled him on Friday morning as he did the (fairly forgettable) theme to Casino Royale, which was on OSN again this past weekend, and though I am pretty plugged into indie music, I hadn't heard of him either. I had just found out who he was (I remember those groups from the '90s) when I switched to my favourite news site (hint: not the Mail online) and saw an article about him and thought huh, how about that. It wasn't until later that I realised why there was an article about him (though they only established the suicide thing after 24 hours I guess).

Used to listen to Soundgarden in the 90s ; 1 of the quintessential grunge and alternative bands. Quite a few of those Alternative and Grunge lead vocalists have gone too soon, of unnatural causes: Cobain,Staley,Weiland and now Cornell.

Get a copy of Badmotorfinger, their breakthrough album. (and throw out your old Smiths records )

Perhaps I remember them as being more influential than they were, but also they were heavily mixed up with Pearl Jam and Rage against the Machine in various iterations of bands.

And how dare you suggest I desecrate such sacred objects as my Smiths' records. I was fondly caressing a Morrissey 12 inch just last night in fact.

Re: Chris Cornell -RIP
I remember the bands and "scene" involved just didn't recall Chris Cornell's name (unlike say Eddie Vedder or Trent Reznor or Dave Grohl for example). I guess I was also heading in a different direction in the '90s, more towards the likes of Happy Mondays or Massive Attack.
