Default Children Kidnapped

I know this is a long shot but a British friend of mines children have been kidnapped from Dubai by her ex husband who is from Saudi.

All we know is that he has taken them to Australia. I know she hasn't got a leg to stand on but was wondering if anyone had any advice?

She is as you can imagine, totally distraught. I found her wondering on the beach today and she is a broken woman.

She has good friends around her, but I know that is not enough.

well, surely if he's taken them to Oz, then she stands more of a chance than if he'd taken them to Saudi, say?! Western countries don't take kindly to people, even parents, kidnapping children.

Can she not also appeal to her embassy? What nationality are the kids? (don't need to know the answers to that, but if blokie is Saudi and her and the kids are British, then there's a case... )

Bless her... I couldn't imagine it. Well, I'd personally rip Mr Kitty's balls off if he tried it.

I'm with you Miss Kitty - he'd not walk properly again . . . Sorry for your friend Bison - hope she gets it sorted. Suggest she talk to British Embassy (ha ha ) and also the Oz Embassy and probably get herself a decent lawyer.

In order to get them visas for Australia, unless he has full custody of them and she has no rights, he would have to prove that she had agreed.
Might be worth contacting DIAC (the Australian Immigration authorities) - contact details on www.immi.gov.au or even try one of the Aus migration agents that post on BE, as one of them may know of somewhere to start, even if they can't help directly.
Alan Collett,George Lombard or JAJ may have some ideas.

Yep contact the authorities in Australia - they are really strict with this type of situation. My husband took one of our kids to europe for a holiday a couple of years ago and the passport office in Australia phoned me to quiz me about my daughters passport application. They really wanted to know if I knew that he was taking her out of the country as he's a dual passport holder and they thought he could have been taking her without my permission.

A relative had a child to an american guy who it was rumoured had hired someone to come and take the child out of Australia and take him back to the US, the kids file was tagged at immigration that he could leave the country with no-one but his mother.

I hope your friend manages to track them down.

I keep hearing stories like this about western women who married someone from this region who does a runner with the kids.

The lady in Dubai whose husband accused her of adultery to hide his own infidelity is another that comes to mind...whatever happened to her. She was locked up (because adultery is a crime ) and was worried her kids would never see her again.

I know a Filippina lady who has had her kids taken by her husband back to Eygpt too...is this some kind of pass time the men have in the region or just some isolated cases?

I don't think he will be able to get the kids into australia (are they australian citizens?)- more probably they are in the region here some where.

Hope they can come to some sort of agreement that works for both of them.

That I find very odd..given that Saudi is next doors and his hometurf. Much more likely that he just switched planes somewhere and returned to Saudi.

Unless his clan/relatives was against the whole idea from the start, that would make him try to avoid Saudi at all costs.

This is a Saudi pasttime isnt it? I have read a lot about this in newspapers, books, on blogs and from friends.

For a Saudi mans wife, the law INSIDE Saudi states that boys under 21 must remain with the father and he has full custody at all times. If he dies, his brother or father (your inlaws) have custody until he is 21 (maybe 18).

For girls its a different story altogether. Women have no real rights in Saudi and no matter what the daughters age, the she must always remain with her mahram or guardian. This is either her father, or if he dies, his family (until she gets married of course, then it becomes her husband).

Women in Saudi Arabia have very little rights and the men of Saudi Arabia exploit this to its fullest. Aside from the fact that marriage in Saudi isn't based so much on love as it is on convenience either to have sex legally, for financial reasons, out of expectations, to have kids or due to a family arrangement.

By the way, the information i provided came from someone else who obtained it from a Saudi lawyer (so yes its still 3rd hand information).

Not at all, deadly serious.

There seems to have been more developments, I think there is a lot more to it.

Can't really go into details on here, but we think the ex was scared off by someone...
