Default Cheapest Dubai annual rent drops to AED22,000

Mind you, you'll have to move to International City......

On the other hand, a 1-bedroom flat on Palm Jumeirah at 75k? Or a 4-bedroom flat in Dubai Marina for 150k?

As expected, Mirdiff is confirmed as the low end of the villa market.....

This is not yet the bottom of the market - more to come, surely?

I am sure that I heard on the radio this morning on the radio that said something like

"come and live on khail road... with the cheapest rents in town starting from 14,000 Dh/ year. Dubai properties group"

I remember when I first came to Dubai in 2000 and got a large 1 bedroom ensuite with a half bathroom as well for AED21,500 payable in six cheques in a new building near the British consulate...there was even parking in those days.

My how times have changed. The average rents are still over priced...consider you pay more in the UAE for a small apartment than you would for a detatched house with a garden in an average European or US city where construction costs are much higher due to them not having extremely cheap labour they can abuse.

I agree. I rented a brand new 2 bed barrett shoe box in a good part of London for £800/ month in 2005 and a one bed flat for £650/month in 2001. I would say that rent is same now.

I looked at run down places in the springs and they are asking GBP 20k year!

It's greed pure and simple...rent is tax in the UAE, let no one fool you. It's got even worse since Zayed died, especially in AD where 40K for a villa wouldn't be out of place really...

I honestly hope the organised greed of UAE landlords collapses and they are forced to obey honest market forces for once...it will be a big shock but better for them in the long run. People who pay less for rent will pay more for other things like cars, shopping, vacations and savings.

I paid 140k for my 3 bed villa in Springs in August 2006. I wonder how much it would cost now.

well, a 3 or 4 bed house with nice garden and off-road parking on the Sussex coast near Brighton is around the £750-1000/ month mark.

Good news about 4-beds in the Marina being 150k - even a few months ago, a 3 bed was that price. Here's hoping that they'll take another 30k knock in the next 3 months!
