Cheap n Cheerful Carpets

Only place I know is the souq half way to Fujairah. Anyone know if they'll be open tomorrow (Friday) morning?

Also, any other recommendations? And I mean cheap.

Do you mean the Friday Market at Masafi? Normally open Friday morning but don't know about during Ramadan.

Have you checked out Carrefour or HyperPanda? They normally have a good selection of cheap rugs.

Not sure where, only know its in the mountains on the main road to Fujairah.

Carrefour yes, Panda no. Wasn't impressed with Carrefour: the one I got at Masafi (if that's where it was) was real silk (no, I don't believe it either), about 2m x 1m, which I haggled down to AED 150.

Anyone know how you can tell if its silk or polyester?

The knob test:

- If it felt good and your knob is red raw = silk

- If it felt good and you no longer have a knob = polyester

Simple! Burn a thread...if it crumples and turns to ash it is natural ( silk, cotton) if it melts, it's plastic, polyester.

Hang on... you are in the 150Dh budget bracket and you are now bitching over what the material is? Does it matter?

Bahtatboy- if you rub yourself against it do you get static- if yes its man made fibre if no its natural- or burn it like Alexa said!

What does it mean if my knob's red but I don't have the carpet yet?

BB - you can get the same carpets you are talking about at Mina Souk AD and they are made in Belgium! Also the Coop at Mina has a very good carpet place - some cheap and cheerful too.
