Cash to be made from Barclays?

Who is this new "celebrity CEO" being appointed?

It was nice to read this morning that Darling has clarified the Government position in relation to the banks who did take their cash. Effectively HBOS et al are now just another branch of government.

He also managed to put in a warning that if Barclays didn't do the deal with the Saudis, he'd make the Government deal very, very expensive indeed. Shares are at 139 (down 6.6%).

Still...it couldn't have happened to a nicer bunch of c:curse:nts frankly.

I'll leave it to others to comment on their management and customer dis-service.

Someone please do - I'm moving out in December and on the verge of opening accounts with both barclays wealth offshore and locally in Dubai.

Having heard similar reports about lloyds, hsbc, etc. I assumed that barclays were the only remaining logical choice. If I'm wrong, please tell me - I haven't sent anything yet!!

More secure now than ever courtesy of your "comrades" in the UK and their taxes :).

Press association - "The bank is bolstering its finances by offering £15 billion in new ordinary shares, with the Government promising to buy up any remaining.

But because RBS's shares are trading well below the 65.5p offer price, investors are likely to snub them.

This leaves the taxpayer - currently sitting on a paper loss of around £5 billion on the new shares - with a potential 58% stake."
Even investors won't touch the offering but the taxpayer is happy to foot the bill?

My biggest fear is this intervention will wear thin when the taxpayers have to start paying for the high level of public debt, the budget deficit is massive and the government are throwing good money after bad. The whole thing has been botched from the start, government debt is about 40% of GDP and rising.

Am just wondering if RBS in UAE (erstwhile ABN) have a huge hole in their balance sheet then will RBS UK bail them out? How safe are the deposits here?

Ask them what protection you have? It seems like a reasonable question.
