Tiguan is small and not as attractive as the Touareg...Saw a preview on the Audi Q5 in Autocar magazine the other day; magnificent...

Right, two options really.

Its either;

Fast, sporty coupe ish. Preferably minimum V6 such as 350Z / Z4 coupe.

or

Big 4x4, preferably V8. Kind of capable off road. i.e patrol / pathfinder

Any car must be able to sell after easily, so i guess really that restricts me to Jap.

What about them CSV8 things? I know its yankee but they're M3 rivalling. Not sure i'd insure one tho.

With a beemer do you need to get it serviced at main dealer to keep the warranty? I'd have a Z4 tomorrow if i saw one cheap enough.

Stick with the 350Z...It has lots more punch than the Z4 and is way cheaper to own and service...

Smile Re: Car Buying Time

Whenever I'm asked to give advice on which car to buy it looks like this, I've tried to arrange them in order of price.

Sports car:
Hairdresser: MX5, S2000, Mustang, 911*, SL
Hardcore: Caterham/Westfield/Tiger, Elise, TVR**, Corvette

Hatch:
Mundane: Civic, Focus, Golf, 1-Series
Hot: Swift, Civic Type-R, Alfa Romeo GTA, RS3

Sedan:
Cheap: Mondeo, Camry, Accord, C6, CTS
Expensive: RS4/6, Phaeton, CLS, S-Class
Ridiculous: Arnage, Phantom

SUV/4x4:
Cheap: Panda
Less cheap: Vitara, CR-V
A lot less cheap: Traverse, XC90, Touareg, Range Rover, ML
For offroad: Jimny, Landcruiser, Defender, Blazer

*Nissan GTR may be an equal contender when proven.
** TVR are no longer in business so I may have to switch to Weissman

Good grief, I'm not very patriotic! For some bizzare reason I like the SSR as well but don't know how to class it.

You already lost face when you categorized the Golf as mundane and put crap like Civic and Swift as hot hatches...

Whoa hold on, there's a huuuuge gap missing in the sportscar section.

They don't just have to be hairdresser / hardcore.

For a start, the S2000 is not and never will be a hairdressers car. The 911 is testosterone on wheels (i don't know if there's a more manly sports car you can buy). Understated class!!!

Where's the R8? Elise is hairdresser....exige is a real car.

Anyways, i could go on and on and on. I agree tho, if you're comparing a basic golf / focus with a type R.... well, there's no comparison.

My old focus would have eaten every hot hatch on the road, and then some. Mundane was one thing it wasn't
