Mine used to be like that. Now I don't ask...

Scamp: bit out of touch, but I was looking at a Leica recently. Maybe best to decide which you will use it for most, stills or video. Even so, it seems that many mid-range DSLRs have top-notch video, so maybe that's filtered down to some extent to the cheaper stuff. I'd have thought that a 3m-waterproof one from any of the main makers would do holiday-quality stills and video while you're in your Speedos.

So doesn't anyone use a standard camera in an underwater housing? I thinking of getting a housing for my Sony RX100 but then saw that I could buy 2 top of the line Go-Pros for the price of a quality underwater housing.

proper housings are stupidly expensive and only worth it if you want to record at qualities suitable for documentaries.

a go pro or any camera really will be as good for 99% of people at a fraction of the cost

Judging by the countless Go-Pro videos out there and multiple mounting options, Go-Pro looks like the way to go??

Yes and no. I don't understand much / enough about cameras from a technical perspective but I do know this:

They're the original, which makes sense to go with, tried and tested etc.
There are good options from Sony and others worth seriously considering.
Battery life is something to pay attention to.
Extras / mounts / cases and their costs are worth paying attention to.

Just bought the Ghost off TheShed (this forum comes up trumps sometimes). Looks like a cracking bit of kit and can't wait to test it out.

I heard that the biggest problem with them is a lack of GPS. Can't remember where I heard this though.

I'm not interested in any of that jazz. I just want to film some Nemo's.

make sure you get a red filter for the camera or you will be underwhelmed at the photos/videos you take underwater..

Needs researching. I had to buy that for my sister's GoPro for scuba diving. Can't find much about needing filters or not for this with a quick google, but will dig deeper and email them to ask as well. THanks for reminding me!

Make sure you buy a decent one, with a good speed writing something. Category 10 TheShed said to me and I got a SanDisk one, wasn't cheap but 64gb and will be worth the cash money.
