Buying Gold - Muscat or Dubai duty free?
 

Hi all, as per the title really. I am passing through both Dubai and Muscat airports in a couple of weeks time. Having a few Omani Riyals spare in my bank account I was wondering about buying a couple or three gold sovereigns (or similar). Any advice regarding what the best option would be? I can't see there being a big difference, but maybe you know differently? Thanks.

Don't bother looking for gold in Muscat Duty Free. You're much better off looking in Dubai Duty Free.

Remember - if you go to the uk, while all investment gold is vat free, only british mint coins like sovereigns are cgt free... It might cost you one day...

Actually brings to mind something that happened to me about 20 old years ago, I too was going through Dubai airport and looked to the shiny Gold available for sale, I thought I could just buy myself a kilo on my credit card to get back to the UK, at that time they were 7000 pounds, I didn't, I missed an opportunity, what are they now about 20 something thousand?
