One down, one to go. Both brothers of Russian/Chechnyan decent but residing in the USA for several years it seems.

Re: Boston bomber shot dead
To describe a Chechen as a "Russian" is like labelling Gerry Adams as "English" !

What has America ever done to Chechnya? Oh...wait...
I liked the new today "In America a man was shot!...In China many Chinese also died due to something".

Re: Boston bomber shot dead
Saying to Chechen that he is Russian is technically the same risk as saying to Palestinian arab that he is ... (guess who)

The older brother was born in Russia, and it is not helpful to pretend that political realities do not exist. The phrase being discussed is a poster writing Chechen/Russian and this to me acknowledged the difficulties of the situation (in regard to a least the older brother). It identifies his ethnicity and his political nationality.
He would have presumably travelled on a Russian passport, whether he liked it or not. Even in his rejection of Russia, he himself acknowledged the reality of the situation when he said, if he could not fight for Chechnya, then he would chose USA over Russia. (It is my understanding that at the time of his death he had not yet gained American citizenship)

Yes and no to your point. Palestinians in the occupied territories will not be travelling on Israeli passports, they will not be competing for Israel. But..Palestinian Arabs within Israel will travel on Israeli passports and do compete for Israel in International sporting events, and this is closer to an analogy. For your analogy to be correct it would be Palestinian Arabs within Israel, as Chechnya is within the Russian Federation.

Nevertheless - the Americans do not understand realities that ethnicity-nationality is in one's blood and does not depends on place of your birth or citizenship/passport you are given.
And that Chechnya and Czechya - it is not the same:
