Booze in Qatar

Just heard a rumour that from 5'oclock this afternoon no more alcohol can be served at beaches. furthermore, the pool bar at the W is closed...apparently the same goes for pools.
I just heard this a few minutes ago, not confirmed.
A beach party at a large hotel is already cancelled.

Strange thing is, some places were shut down and others were not....and nothing official as far as I know :/

Now I hear alcohol is banned from all outside areas.
No confirmation or reason from the government as of yet though.

There was a time when you couldn't go to a hotel and have a drink, but it wasn't entirely dry - you used to get a booze permit, issued by the British Embassy, to spend at the Cable and Wireless syndicate- originally 400 QR, later 500....
