Re: Blogging in Dubai.....
i would imagine all sites are monitored to a greater or lesser degree.
i'm not sure where mods stand here - i have no financial interest in BE. The site is not based in UAE. There are many post that can be made either in this section, but in other forums too...
each poster is actually liable for there own comments too.
i would expect after so many years with no issues BE is fine in the eyes of the UAE - keeps us all in one place and relatively out of trouble...
Can you imagine an unmoderated forum based in UAE - I'd be scared....
My blogs were more of a worry for me personally... but i don't sail too close to anything...

I had my own forum and I would never have given that information out unless of course there was a court order to do so, but by then I would imagine the person would have deleted their account.

well facebook have said if the police want any info they will let them have access to facebook, and skype have encryped their phone calls and refuse to let the police de-encrypt them to listen in.

BE couldn't give out people's real names as we don't ask posters for proof of identity when they sign up. Therefore how do we know what are people's real names and what aren't?

They can only give out the IP adress, as soon as someone is on a proxy/VPN or posts from out of the country, there's nothing they can do.
Don't know the laws in the UAE though, I know there are some court cases over here because of ISP's not giving out personal information to the government, due to privacy laws.
