Bit of a shunt...

85 cars involved in a pile-up between AD and DoBuy. And the fannies on the radio still saying, "Accident caused by fog...".

Re: Bit of a shunt...

And every frigging newspaper has got something in there about "...caused by dense fog". Why don't they say "...caused by God's will"?

Re: Bit of a shunt...

According to police visibility due to fog was reduced to 50 metres (m), and that most of the cars involved in the pile-up were speeding at 120 km per hour, despite poor visibility conditions.

At 120 kph your reaction distance is 22 m, braking distance is 85 m and total stopping distance is 107 m …explains a lot !

The speed required to stop within 50 m is about 78 kph, but still too fast for the foggy conditions experienced !

Re: Bit of a shunt...

sounds like that massive pile up a few years ago when there was only 3 fatalities and about 60 cars on fire

yeh similar place, between samha and ghantoot.

Re: Bit of a shunt...

Ghantoot - whatever. The fog didn't cause the massive pile up, poor driving in bad weather conditions did and always will.

There are no accidents.

Latest figures say 127 cars, 60 injured, one death.

I'm at a total loss to understand why people drive like idiots when they can't effing see. Imagine how much worse it would have been on a weekday morning. :(

Re: Bit of a shunt...

I was hoping they would confirm their stupidity by claiming the fog was caused by angry Jinn and Satan fiddled with everyone's breaks the morning before...

Clearly not enough of them put their hazards on, that would've solved the problem at 120 clicks...

Re: Bit of a shunt...

A friend did the same journey yesterday when there was fog again and said that people were still whizzing by at 150+, no lights and/or hazards flashing.

Maybe they are going green and back to their roots - perhaps we need a bring back the camel campaign:rofl:

You need to think outside of the box...

There is no such thing as a road fatality. When has a road ever killed someone? They are fatal car accidents.

I reckon they have already met their target.

Or maybe all cars will be flying by then...if they aren't already!

I think that's the only way they'll achieve it, tbh.

No fog lights when it is actually foggy, yet so many seem to have them on when it's a bright sunny day.

many GCC spec cars don't have fog lights. Mine doesn't - which is just stupid.

I used to work for Basildon Development Corporation (shudder). A resident threw himself off the top of the new multi-storey car park; his family sued the Corporation for failing to design the car park to prevent anyone doing this. Privately we agreed that if anyone was to be sued it was the department which designed the pavement.

Passed a nasty accident on SZR this morning. It involved a bus, truck and several cars and caused a northbound tailback from the Safa Park exit to Mall of the Emirates. Does anybody know anything about what happened?
