Default Bicycle frame repair work in AD?

Hi all,

My bicycle seat post has seized in the frame on its journey over from the UK - my fault for not greasing it before shipping.

It's not going to be an easy job to get it out - certainly not something your average bicycle shop guy used to changing tyres is likely to have the tools/skills for.

Anyone know of a bike repair/metalworker in Abu Dhabi / Musaffah who could help (without butchering the frame itself)?

Cheers!

First port of call would be BE bikes in Mushrif Mall.

I'd rather let a Pilipino bike dude have a go easing it before heading to some Keralite metal butcher in Mussafah

There is a bike shop next to the new Central Market, on the corner with/near to Airport Rd. I've only used him for minor stuff, but I've been told they are one of the best (out of a small selection) in AD. There are also one or 2 bike shops on Electra St, near Muroor Rd - but it always takes me a few attempts to find them, so I might be a block out in my description! I'd guess they are cheaper than the one by central market.

That one by Central Market is in the middle of this map (little orange symbol). I've used them before and they're fine.

If you cant find anyone who gives you confidence in AD, I can thoroughly recommend Wolfies in Dubai. They are run and staffed by ex-racers and factory technicians and REALLY know what they are doing even on Carbon and Titanium bikes.

Its an hour down the highway, but if its a top end bike, better to let experts have a go at it.

Just my experience, YMMV

Wolfies is great, but seriously pricey. I think their bike service was over double what I had to pay in AD.

Agreed they charge a handsome sum and I certainly would not use them for simple jobs, but as I said, if its a pricey Carbon bike, you really don't want a man with a hammer and a black and decker going at it.

Thanks all,

I took the frame to Tamreen Sports by Central Market yesterday and have just had a call saying they weren't able to budge it... seems it's well and truly stuck.

He's suggested (as I feared) taking it to a welder in Mussafah, though didn't suggest any one in particular.

It's not a hugely fancy frame - just a lightweight steel singlespeed frame made by Genesis. The paint is bashed up anyway from 5 years' London commuting so I'm not too worried about it getting bashed up as long as it's usable.

I may give Wolfies a call before I hand it over to a metalworker, though; thanks for the suggestion.
