Default Best & Worst Airports

Best: Helsinki. All that real wood and good food.
Worst: Alexandria. Filthy tin shacks. Closely followed by Dammam, vast empty expanses of marble, endless queues, and the rudest officials imaginable.

I think Egypt may hold a few titles here...

How about Cairo International (old terminal)? I once had to be sick in the toilets there - not a pleasant experience, quite possibly the worst toilets on Earth.

Yeah, used to travel in and out of Cairo a lot before the new terminal--it was grim. But the worst toilets were at the step pyramid (can't remember the name of the place)--this must be going back 14 years but I can still picture it vividly. I won't describe it, 'cept to say that it looked like the floor, walls and ceiling had been decorated in brown courduroy.

Best: Singapore - hands down. They will even arrange a city tour if your layover over is long enough
Worst: Kabul - landmined.... at least it was last I heard/visited

You are right about Changi Airport - it is (or at least was) the only airport to achieve the gold IATA Level of Service Standard A... never been though

Kabul - landmined : now that could be a bit tricky for an airport...

I prefer Incheon to Changi, but only just. Denpasar is lovely, of the tiny airports I've been to.

Least favorite: I detest Sharjah but can't pinpoint why. The lounge at Dammam is nice enough to elevate it above Riyadh in my estimation. Tripoli was horrible. But the only airport I really love to hate is Charles de Gaulle.

Worst was a toss up between Djibouti and Khartoum. Port Sudan is shite as well. T3 in Dubai is quite good and T1 is good at quiet times.
Viena is also the worst airport in a European city for me.

Best: Changi is a good one and i have to say Amsterdam is one of the easiest to get about.

Worst: I detest Paris CDG but others include:
Luanda - From check in to lounge to the mosquitos and on and on...
Esbjerg in Denmark - a crappy school canteen type food shop

Edinburgh - because its not Glasgow!

They already do that in Birmingham

I have to say, ten quid a day to store my bike bag in EDI was a complete rip-off. It only cost 10 CHF a day to keep the whole bike in Zuerich HBF for goodness sake.

No matter how much the airport's improved it's still miles and miles away from anywhere. It cost a freakin' fortune to get from the airport to the city centre via taxi.

My rankings of the best airports:

Munich
Toronto
Dulles
Singapore
Christchurch
Dunedin
Belo Horizonte
Venice
Bristol
Providence
Edinburgh

Worst:
Denver
Amsterdam-Schipol
Nandi
Cairo

In between:
Everything else in general.

For the best airport I balance the design with the quickness of getting in/out, which is why the smaller regional airports often do better.

I hate, hate and hate Amsterdam because of the impossibly long corridors and that to make a transfer in/out of the EU you have to go through customs again. Denver is awful because they kept losing my baggage.
