The best airline to use is Malaysian, they do biz class flights for less than dh3,000 usually and economy (used to be) around dh1400

Emirates has the best flight times (and at the moment is just Dh1800 - as I've just booked two return flights), MEA is just appalling.

Air Arabia is cheap and cheerful (but you have to go to Sharjah). Jazeera only has one direct flight.

Do you need a visa to enter Lebanon these days? I flew to Amman, Jordan a few years back and really enjoyed myself.

loads of lebanese lasses here big man, they told me where to go,

so: fly from sharjah to lebanon, car picks us up and drives us about 1 hour and a bit to the slopes, check into nice little 4 star hotel for 3 days, we get board hire, insurance and lift passes all in the price, then car takes us to this cool little 5 star boutique (I hate that word) hotel in beirut,

2 days partying and seeing the sights there then fly back home, works out just over £800 each,

seems canny don;t you think?

Spugsy,
you can get a Lebanese visa when you arrive at Beruit airport, I recall it costing US$17 cash at a small counter just before you get to passport control. You can only get a free visa for a 2 day or less visit.

Yeah, we were also thinking of going to Beirut for a few days mid Feb, my wife's a teacher, but the time she off, the costs of the flights rocketed - coincides also with the half term hols - its the same in Saudi as it is in the UK - school holidays sees the costs of flights go through the roof.

Going instead to East Coast in Saudi, then prob over to Bahrain for a day ot two.

Really fancy the idea of a trip to Beirut - you'll have to tell us all about it when you get back.

i flew to beirut a few years ago from Sharjah with air arabia.

I was trying to get to Cyprus to watch my beloved Rangers playing famagusta but all the flights from DXB to larnaca were full.

So i had around 13 hours to kill in Beirut and thought that i would see some of the place whilst there. i spoke to an official just before immigration and asked him where the immigration que was. He asked me where i was travelling onto and I said Cyprus. he then told me to wait in the airport, i told him i was going out to see the city and he said i couldn't. He said you have come from sharjah and you need to apply for a visa. After explaining to him around 5 times that although i flew from the UAE, I am a British passport holder. he then said it doesnt matter at which point i told him i checked before I left with regards to the visa and it definitely said i could get on arrival. He then told me to leave his presence and if i went near the passport control, i was going to be arrested. needless to say I spent the time in the airport!!
