Which BE'er and which bar?

Just a thought, but based on what has been written/assumed etc., which BE'er would hang out in which bar, and more to the point, who would never be seen dead in a place.

I'll start with The Dean, I reckon he loves places like The Red Lion (RIP), but would detest Barasti.

Next.

I'd try them all out once.

I feel used.

For me, I'd choose Bob - in some american diner, burger with extra chips and crappy watered down american beer.

If not him, then Ethos - Pimms at lourdes and some bitchy people watching. I'd have to shower afterwards though as the whole experience would make me feel dirty.

Most likely though would be CoDurham Boy - few beers down the Sheraton, Doha, York Dubai or Trap Bar, Abu Dhabi.

I certainly hate Barasti............. Red Lion was always a bit smoky for me.

Most often, I'm in the Nezassaussiezissie jobby at Manzil, mainly for the rugby.

The bars, but there are lots of people I'd like to meet too.
To this day I have not met one single BE person in real life though I have spoken to a few.

Not too far off the truth, although in AD my "local" (not that I went out much) was Coopers.

In Dubai, I would say my socialising in Bars extends to a Sat afternoon few pints with the family at the AR golf club as I live next to it.

The old me (when I lived in Doobers first time round and weighed 105kg's and had more chins than a chinese phonebook), would have been easily located every night in the Lakes Club...

Saying that, when I'm out with work, my team all stay in the Park Regis in Karama, and as well as it being a great hotel with a sports bar, the restaurant on the 19th floor 'Kris' is just stunning. Food is great and the panoramic views are something else. Try it sometime...in fact don't, it is a hiddem gem in my opinion.

I don't think you can pidgeon hole people into certain types of bars. Surely it depends on the company you are with, mates/wife/couples/kids or indeed, if the wife and kids are away for the summer..

I would imagine Kittykat would be equally at home in a wine bar or a sports bar.

Ps good choice Dean, was in there with the family a month ago for dinner and a few pints. Nice place if you like rugby. I don't but still the memorabilia around the place is great.

Used to goto Nell Gwynne's in the Byblos Marina, only as my mate played in the band there. They have now moved to a fulltime gig at the Music Rooms. The band is the Boxtones.

your right commander :D, I'm like a bar chameleon- the only place you won't find me is up your arse bars- cant stand it- give me a working mens club anyday, or a bar where it gets a bit rowdy and jumping around like a mad thing is acceptable behaviour, having said that I like glittery things too so nice chilled out bars having a natter and getting slowly tipsy with the girls is always nice, the moment the cool kids come in I'm off- but generally a bar with men and alcohol in it and I'm pretty much happy

C'mon that's not fair , i have been known to frequent a higher class of watering hole in my time here in The Gulf .

49'ers in A.D and The Cyclone in Dubai were favorites of mine a few years ago.

Was in The York a few weeks ago after the cricket , bin liners for wallpaper on the staircase and the stickiest carpet in the world and that's before you enter Dante's Inferno at the top of the stairs !

I do like the Irish Village though and The Boardwalk at the creek , great place to nurse a hangover !

Talking of bars I was at the Sharjah Wanderers on Fri watching my boy play rugby for Abu Dhabi Harlequins - a sport that I've always shied away from but am coming round to.

What an old school ex-pat facility. Brilliant. Imagine it's what the Club (Abu Dhabi) was like in 1980. I'd say some of the relics on here would be the bar there. I was getting an 8.30am coffee and some chap bowled in and ordered 'a bloody mary...large one'

Having been a member of said wanderers a few years back I'm not surprised. Does it still have the sign up that says "No Muslims allowed", that always cracked me - in Sharjah FFS.
