I watched an article on BBC News last night quite interesting and perturbing at the same time, re laws governing Internet slander etc primarily against the Government. Extremely high profile family member (Mansoor) locked up without trial in Abu Dhabi, and the use of BAE Systems software to track all and read all internet traffic here in the UAE, Qatar and other Gulf Countries. And also the ability to virtually track your movements in real time.....big brother is definitely watching us all.....

That would depend I think.

Lives have moved to a much more online existence. Since it's beginning that has been a somewhat transparent and open medium allowing just about anything and everything. Fair enough in a society and culture that has traditionally had a mindset that encourages that. It has been a much harder path for society's and cultures with a fixed mindset and agenda where control and conformity are pillars of that.

It is perhaps much more expected that some places are going to want and will strive to achieve a level of control through various tools as might be available, than others. It is much more of a concern to think that there could be states who would espouse freedoms then move to act differently.

Nobody would expect that China would act in any way other than that which it does, or that any of its surrogates behave similarly. Equally in other closed and monitored society's.

If it "bother's" someone to be in a place where such is the norm then they need to consider if they should be trying to change it or excuse themselves from it.

Interesting, I think if you're anti-'monitoring' then your only real option is perhaps to go totally off-grid, which is not just a lifestyle change but a complete shift in your reality.

Therefore you have to accept it happens, if you can accept an inch, then you've probably already sacrificed a mile.

I used to sell stuff like this in my previous employment, let me tell you for a fact, there is a HUGE gap between what you think they can do and what they can currently do.

A lot less.

No-one has been able to break 4g for voice for example, yes every email you send gets "read" but there's nothing to worry about there, they don't care if you google "Teen Porn" for example, Google Muslim Brotherhood and you'll be noticed. Use a V P N if you insist, that way no-one can see you but your speed drops so it's a trade off.

Oh, and beware of the apps from the government, RTA etc, as they WILL see all your data on your phone.
