F1 should never have agreed to Bahrain. While the violence in Bahrain is a fraction of Syria or Libya, they wouldn't be getting F1 were it not for them being a solid Western ally. If South Africa during Apartheid was proscribed from sporting events, why does the Gulf get a pass...

Sporting events should be non-political, unless there is a war going on there should be no reason not to run F1 in Bahrain imo.
On the positives side (depending your view) the protesters will get a lot more coverage with the event being run than being cancelled.

If we could re-jig sport so that it was aligned with the (original) olympic ideals, then all would be good and it could transcend other issues. But that's not possible. Especially since wet ballet became an olympic sport. But I'd keep the women's beach volleyball.

Actually South Africa kept their GP right up till the mid-80s, because they gave a good rand-job to dodgy Bernie the used car salesman!

Neither North Korea or Iran could dream of getting it. F1 is a huge PR exercise for the host country specifically for a country that is an up and comer wanting to be noticed in the world. Thats why I don't think Bahrain should get it (or any Gulf country for that matter).
