Default Article 50 signed and delivered

While we were all sleeping Madame May formally signed Article 50 and it has been dispatched to Brussels.

Later today, approximately lunchtime Brussels time (3-4 PM UAE time?) the letter will formally be delivered to Donald Tusk at the EU. At that point it will officially be 'invoked' and the two year countdown begins (methinks it will be sorted out quicker).

Article 50: May signs letter that will trigger Brexit - BBC News

Whatever your thoughts are, it is a momentous day for the UK. And Madam May, for better or for worse, has earned her place in the footnotes of history and the dusty tomes of the Bodleian.

One way or another, we're in for a wild ride. Hold on to your hats!

* sorry for a new thread but the other one was long enough. And this seems an appropriate reason for a new thread on leaving the EU.

Indeed, and it's not like there is a blueprint for this so in a way people don't know what they are doing but people do know where they want to be at the end of the negotiations so having a goal is good.

It's amazing how the liberal left have allowed their fear to take control and have turned that into a wish that it does all go wrong, just so they can scream 'I TOLD YOU SO'. They'd rather see the downfall of the country than put their minds to finding a way forward. The liberal left are like an anchor dragging the country backwards because they didn't get their own way.

I wonder what the leftie snowflakes will say when it doesn't 'all go wrong'.

The British Public has decided, so now it's up to everyone to get behind the decision.

Awesome post Though I did have to check if it was a copy/paste from The Sun.

As a bystander I can't wait to see how this all pans out. Curious about this liberal left idea, is there no such thing as liberal right?

Liberal just means anything you want it to mean.

I used to think it referred to the classic liberalism of the 19th century Liberal Party and Mill, but looking at the LibDem these days and their fetish for the EU I haven't the foggiest.

Americans bundle liberal and left together and that has transformed the common understanding of the term liberal for many people. Maybe that is what Iknow meant.

It could be that as no one takes the far left seriously so they're no longer factored into political discussions, the term 'left' now mostly refers to neoliberals?

you prefer the Scottish or usual EU style of democracy? Ignore the voters and keep holding referendums until you get the result you want.

Inselaffen should examine the composition of Westminster and Holyrood. How many MPs and MSPs from the different political groups in Scotland ? Clue - at Westminster non-SNP parties have each ONE MP !

What we saw with the events of yesterday is the end of TWO Unions - the EU and GB.

pity Scotland doesn't have the legal right to hold a referendum with the approval of Westminster.

Interesting constitutional point. I have heard legal opinion from Professor at a London Uni who says that Holyrood is in a position to have an ADVISORY referendum.

Hmm. SNP doesn't even win half the votes cast. They simply take advantage of the unionist votes divided among the three traditional parties.

Who knows what will happen but methinks SNP will fall flat on their faces with this demand for another independence referendum. Good chance it'll never actually happen.

Advisory means bullocks.

Like the Catalonian referendums. Madrid just ignored them. Meant diddly squat.

If people know the referendum is merely advisory and not a genuine one, turnout will fall drastically, and delegitimise it.

FYI as a child of a professor and who grew up in a University town, you can *always* find a professor or 'expert' to say anything you want. Doesn't mean they're 'right'.

And that's going to be accurate isn't it.

Go out of your way and vote for something that will be pointless anyway.

Yet more voter fatigue - or maybe that's crankie's point, keep forcing a referendum onto the people until she gets the vote she wants cos the remainers can't be arsed to vote.

Reminds me of a scene in Auf Wiedersehn Pet series one when they're voting for the inside colour of the hut.

So everyone gets what nobody wants.
Well that's democracy Dennis.
