I'm kinda casual, denim skirt, black top, or black jersey dress,or little linen dress. I generally have to wear leggings if I'm wearing a shorter skirt and cover my arms and shoulders to the elbow so have a shrug or something I can just throw on. Can get away with deep neck tops but if our moroccan sales guy is in I regret it as you can't get him to focus. Basically was told to get respect from the men here and not to offend any women in the office its worth covering legs and arms and neckline. Funny seeing as I work for a lingerie company where we have nearly naked girls about but guess they don't go parading through the office... I also have to wear a jumper if my boss is in as his air con is on freezer temperature so I'd freeze my arse off if I didn't!

surely what is appropriate depends on the nature of the work..or are you generalising that all women serve tea and type letters in offices?

In the Ally Pally, the workers seem to follow 'less is more'.

I dress exactly as I did in the UK, only lighter weight fabrics obviously. Usually a suit - or smart separates. It does depend where you are working but I generally dress conservatively ie avoid above the knee skirts and cover arms and the decolletage area (with nice scarves). Anything body hugging or lowish neckline in AD is tolerated but discretely frowned upon by many Emiratis.
