The problem is once they have switched the indicator on, it never switches off again.....so it becomes a guessing game as to which direction they are planning to go.

Indicating is seen by many (no guesses who...), as to "asking permission", hence the "I am too important to ask a Tiida for permission to change my lane" comes into play....

I take that as a clue I am following a idiot who isn't paying attention so treat it as a warning.

Changed your tune, mate? I seem to remember you hating it in a previous life on another forum. But yeah, they are economical, practical and reliable cars that run well and I rent one.

That's unwise, because it may lead you to assume that someone who isn't indicating isn't an idiot. Assume they all are, and you'll be about 90% right.

I never thought of using the indicator as asking for permission, but as a alert that you are about to change lanes. Of course this is done with the assumption that there's plenty of space and you're not cutting anyone off.

Speaking of bad driving, the other day I was on Sheikh Zayed in Jebel Ali when a Prado cuts me off, pops into my lane only a meter in front and two seconds later the speed camera flash goes off.

Now I'm worried about getting a ticket for tailgating. I was already starting to decelerate to build up space between us. I'd be really pissed if I get a ticket.

Going back to the use of indicators - or even double indicators i.e hazard lights - it is only in Saudi that the hazards come on during rain? It's like they think it creates some sort of invisible force field to protect the car?

Having said that, it is also used when alerting others to upcoming speed camera's. About the only positive regarding driving in this region.
