Surely this is a case of marry in haste, repent in leisure? all to easy to blame other people/circumstances rather than avoid saying you couldn't make it work...no sympathy whatsoever!

I blame the mother in law.

Just on principle.

In case anyone might be tempted to waste three minutes reading the article, here's my prediction as to what it contains:

1- Smug person
2- self-satisfied (job, car, sunshine)
3- Obligatory reference to culture of excess
4- Token nod to miserable underpaid Ethiopian housemaids
5- Name dropping
6- Brunch
7- Lifestyle that I never dreamt of in miserable old Britain- you should all be jealous of me
8- I didn't like it after all so I left. But only after living it up for a few years.
9- Now I'm fishing for a job in some celeb-lifestyle magazine- see how well I write? I know all the cliches! (Although I am currently back at my old job stacking shelves at Asda)

She says that "Nobody really knew where this small but wealthy state was" in 2003! Dream on - it was in the holiday brochures big time. It was so much better in the early 90's without the brunch set etc

I didn't know where it was other than 'somewhere on the boot' until I saw the flight path graphics on the plane! (that is no lie).
So desperate I was to get out of the hole that is the UK...and so poor was/is my knowledge of the world. That was '04.
I was here less than a week after my company first raised the idea.....albeit on secondment initially.
.
No tax, sunny, accomm allowance, car allowance, flights, medical etc....I thought that was the bees knees and off I went god knows where.
It's worked out well though.

Yes, I managed about 2 minutes before I got bored with her sensationalist, self pitying drivel.

Boring

I'm guessing she did it and the mail bastardised it to put all the lciques in, it's dreadful.

For me, it seems a case of back home 'oh it's fûcking freezing, we've lost our jobs, at least it's not working out for those twats in Dubai, so that makes us feel better'

It was even better in the late 70s….. I had to look it up in an atlas.
