In British English the term is used to descibe a type of meat ball mostly or a bundle of sticks...given the context of your post I think I am safe in assuming you were not referring to the man in the pic as a cullinary speciality or a bundle of sticks?

The word origin comes from the bundle of sticks and twigs used to light the fires - fires that were often used to burn homosexuals and other heretics in the middle ages...

You should use 'ass bandit' 'turd thief' 'starfish burglar' or something else more complimentary.
